The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Office of Academic Enhancement in partnership with the Hyde Park
Academy of Scholastic Chess and the Illinois Sport Authority will present the 2nd Annual “Diamond in
the Rough” K-8th grade Chess Tournament on May 16, 2006, at US Cellular Field, located on 333
West 35th Street in Chicago in the Stadium Club room.
Over 200 CPS students will showcase their strategic thinking skills in this city wide tournament. The

competition and good sportsmanship.
Mr. Smith, founder of the Hyde Park Academy of Scholastic Chess believes that “every child is a
diamond and it is up to us to cut the facets of this diamond so that each child’s brilliance may shine
